Question:
How do I get EndNote to work well on my Mac?
Having trouble with EndNote on your Mac? Changes in recent versions of the Mac OS may cause some issues with using EndNote. Here are some common problems and their solutions.
- You get a message that your library 'in in use by other user'. You may get this message if you've saved your EndNote library on your Desktop, or in the Documents area, as these two places are now synced in iCloud. To fix this, move your library to the EndNote folder (under Applications).
- When you export citations to EndNote you get a message that your Mac can't open the file because 'no available application can open it'. Go to Finder, then Downloads. Ctrl Click on the file you want to open, then click Open. You can then click Choose Application and select EndNote to open that type of file. The first time you export citations from other databases you may need to repeat this process.
- When you export citations to EndNote you get a message that your Mac can't open the file because 'it is from an unidentified developer'. Go to System Preferences, then Security and Privacy. On the General tab you'll see any files that have recently been blocked, and you can choose to Open Anyway.
